UK government energy grant schemes provide financial support to help households improve insulation, heating systems and renewable energy installations. Each scheme has different eligibility rules, funding levels and application routes depending on household income, property type and energy efficiency needs.

ECO4 Scheme
ECO4 requires larger energy suppliers to fund insulation and heating upgrades for low-income households and those living in inefficient homes.
What is covered
- Loft, pitched roof and flat roof insulation
- Cavity, internal and external wall insulation
- Underfloor, solid floor and park home insulation
- Heating: gas boiler upgrades, heating controls and first-time central heating
Eligibility
- Homeowners or private tenants receiving benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support, income-based JSA or income-related ESA
- Pension Credit recipients, or households receiving Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or Child Benefit (income dependent)
- Housing Benefit recipients
- Low EPC route: homes rated D, E, F or G may qualify even without benefits, subject to local authority flex rules
Cost to you: typically £0 for eligible households — some measures attract partial funding and may require a top-up contribution, always quoted before you agree. Note: ECO4 was extended to 31 December 2026 — check your eligibility before it closes.

Warm Homes: Local Grant
The Warm Homes: Local Grant is already live and administered by local authorities.
Eligibility
- Household income under £36,000, or receiving means-tested benefits
- Homeowner or private tenant (with landlord permission)
- Property with an EPC rating of D, E, F or G
What may be covered
- Loft, cavity, solid wall, underfloor and park home insulation
- Solar panels (in some cases)
- Low-carbon heating solutions, including heat pumps

Warm Homes Plan (From 2026)
The Warm Homes Plan is the government's new energy efficiency programme, replacing ECO4. Backed by £15bn of capital investment, it is one of the biggest energy efficiency programmes in British history.
Key facts
- Full programme expected to run from 2026 to 2030
- Up to 5 million homes targeted for upgrades by 2030
- Up to 1 million households targeted to be lifted out of fuel poverty
- 180,000 additional green jobs targeted by 2030
- From April 2026, an average of £150 is being taken off household energy bills (announced at the 2025 Autumn Budget)
Key differences from ECO4
- Not supplier-led — directly government funded
- Broader eligibility expected (more households)
- Expected to use updated energy assessment methodology (the Home Energy Model, the planned successor to SAP/RdSAP)

BUS Scheme – £7,500 Heat Pump Grant
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides grants towards air source heat pump installation.
Grant amounts
- Standard property: £7,500
- Eligible off-gas property (oil or LPG heating): £9,000 — temporary enhanced tier running 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027
Eligibility
- You own your home (or are a small business owner)
- Your property is in England or Wales
- You are replacing a fossil fuel or electric heating system (gas, oil, LPG or electric)
- Your property has a valid EPC issued in the last 10 years — the old rule requiring outstanding insulation recommendations to be addressed has been removed from the scheme
- No income limit — the BUS Scheme is open to all eligible homeowners
How it works: the grant is applied as an upfront discount — deducted from your quote and claimed directly from Ofgem through the scheme's certified-installer route, so you only ever pay your net amount.

Do I need to pay anything back?
No. ECO4, Warm Homes Plan and BUS Scheme grants are not loans — there is nothing to repay. Where a measure attracts partial funding, any top-up contribution is quoted before you agree.
Can I get a grant if I am a private tenant?
Yes — for most schemes, private tenants can apply with written permission from their landlord. Social housing tenants should contact their housing association first.
What if I do not qualify for a grant?

How long does the grant application process take?

What is PAS2035?
PAS2035 is the British standard for the retrofit of domestic properties. It is required for ECO4 insulation work, and all our grant work is PAS2035 compliant.
